How does your garden grow? Gorgeously, when you can find what you need to nurture it right? Well, organized garden tools make planting easier and may even encourage you to sow a new seed. If your spades, shovels, and shears, are a jumbled mess, designate an area in the garage, basement or shed and prune your collections by the help of the following tips from the expert of Catalyst Organizing.
- Toss chipped or broken pots and tools. Give away any you won’t use.
- Clean metal tool heads. In a bucket, mix sand and a bit of fresh motor oil. Remove rust with a wire brush, then dunk each head into sand a few times and wipe dry. Rub wooden handles with linseed oil to prevent crackling.
- Sort tools by size and function-diggers, cutters and so on. Hang what you can on hook. Or place large objects heads up in a tall trash can and small ones in a pail for easy identification.
- Set heavy planters on the ground or a low shelf. Place smaller vessels on shelves at eye level.
- Alphabetize seed packets in a recipe box. Never store them where there’s moisture or in freezing temperatures
- Save bags of potting soil in plastic containers with lids to prevent spills.
- Store fertilizers and weed killers up high and out of children’s reach. Never combine chemicals to save space.
