New Brunswick is a province in Maritime Canada. Deer Island is part of New Brunswick and straddles the border between Maine and Canada. Deer Island is a beautiful place to go and if you know a great place to stay, it is even a better choice. Before pulling out with the family in the car, the ADT security systems are set, which is necessary when leaving the home unattended.
The way to New Brunswick follows the usual route one takes going to Maine. The only difference is that you turn off heading east on route 1 from I-95 instead of taking I-95 due north. A couple hours east, the border crossing at Calais Maine is reached. Here there is a fast crossing into New Brunswick Canada. From here it is a short drive to the ferry that will take autos and people for the short crossing to Deer Island. This island too is a place that many would like to call home because of its serenity and low key lifestyle.
If fish is a favorite, there are plenty of fine inexpensive fish restaurants, serving freshly caught fish, on the island . Leaving the island, even in season, will not entail a long wait for the ferry to the mainland of New Brunswick. Here there are supermarkets and stores for buying provisions. A week's stay on the island is sufficient and will recharge your batteries. In the inn where we stayed, the ferries leaving Portland and Boston for Nova Scotia can be seen from the inlet on which the inn sits. At night, the lights of the ships produce pictures that would look great on postcards.
That's probably a nice place to spend a family vacation. There are lot of things to do and see. Thanks for the post. God bless you all always.
