I Wish You All a Fun and Relaxing Week!

Last Wednesday was a busy day for us. It was a day full of doctors appointment from 8:00am till 5:00pm. I am so glad because each one of us has a good news everything came out good. Especially me I got so nervous before my check-up because when I had my urinalysis they found a blood in my urine then my primary care physician ask me to go to a specialist which is a Urologist. The doctor told me that everything was clear. He stated that it could be an irritation inside.  But I am still waiting for the final result that he will going to send me through snail mail. Anyway, here’s another tips on health that I want to share for all of you that I gathered from my doctors clinic.

10 Tips For Preventing Medical Errors

Be honest and complete when you talk with your doctor
Don’t hold back information about the state of your health, even if it is embarrassing.
Enlist the help of a supporter
Ask a family member or friend to be present when talking with your physician to help recall what was said, to take notes or to ask questions.
Speak up if you are confused about treatment, medications or complications
Call the doctor’s office for advice and/or clarification. Don’t ever hesitate to ask questions when you don’t understand.
Ask for educational materials
Ask your doctor for brochures or instruction sheets that you and your family members can review at home or for an educational Web site.
Know your treatment plans
Ask about your diagnosis, treatment alternatives, course of care and risks of surgery and possible complications.
Know your medication
Ask the doctor or nurse about the benefits, doses and complications of all medicines prescribed for you and learn their names. Tell them if you have drug allergies and if you take any vitamins, herbal supplements or over-the counter medications.
Avoid medication errors
During a hospital stay, make sure all health care professionals who give you medicine check your ID bracelet every time.
Prevent wrong site surgery
Ask the surgeon to sign your surgery site and mark it with ink just before the operation.
Be clear about follow up care
Ask about pain and pain relief, length of recovery, time, physical limitations and if home assistance will be needed.
Prevent infections
If you are in a hospital, consider asking all health care workers who have direct contact with you whether they have washed their hands. Also encourage visitors to wash their hands before and after hospital visits.
EVERYONE!!!

  1. Very practical tips Sam for patients and would be operation patient. It is indeed advisable to ask relevant questions about your sickness and to provide your doctor with relevant information about its symptoms. That would minimize if not totally eliminate error in diagnosis or operation. Thank for the informative post. God bless you all always.
