The Power of Baking Soda

Whew! Hello again everyone. I just got done cleaning our bathrooms and cleaning our fridge. While I was cleaning I am thinking of sharing my experienced using baking soda as a household cleaner.  I guess it is not new to many but for me I never try to use it a  a household cleaner because I only use  baking soda  as a  refrigerator freshener only. But  since I have an allergy rhinitis, I do try to use unscented or mild stuffs for my cleaning needs lately.

I remember my sister always telling me to try to use it before for cleaning.  Because she said it does good to anything when it comes to household stuffs but I just ignored it.

But today I get more curious, and finally I decided to give it a try .I did  used it to clean fridge, bath and bathroom tiles etc I said to myself...well, my sister is right, it does removes tiles stain and it really helps eliminate bad odor.

What to do:

As a household cleaner: sprinkle on a damp sponge or cloth to clean counter-tops, appliance, metal cabinets and tiles. It helps remove stains from cups, teapots, kitchen sinks, and fridge.

To clean combs and brushes: soak for 5 minutes in a bowl of warm water with 4 tablespoons of baking soda.

Refrigerator freshener:  Remove top of box and place package on fridge or freezer   shelf replace with fresh box every 3 months. Write in a date when opened box was placed in freezer or fridge. Indicate the replacement date 3 months later.

Cleans and sweetens drains: flush used baking soda down sink or bath drains to clean and sweeten.

In my experienced baking soda does all the jobs you do with scouring powder but without suds or scratches. It also removes oily residues but leaves no soapy film. See also your favorite cookbook for many uses in different kinds of recipes.

Reminder: Don't throw away your used baking soda. You can use it as a household cleaner.

Kid's Heart-Healthy Sleep

According to a new study maintaining a strict bedtime is important as your kids get older. In fact, it may protect them against heart disease. Teens who get less than 6.5 hours of sleep a night are more than twice as likely to have high blood pressure. A new study from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. An hour before your child should hit the sack, have her shut down all electronics and turn off bright overhead lights.

To all blogger mommy's I personally share it with you. Hope your kids will always have a healthy sleep. I go night night for now. It's been a long day for me cleaning the house. I am so tired...I will see you all soon.
Have a fun weekend with your family and friends everyone!

Halloween Safety

Make it all treats this Halloween by following a few, common sense rules.

  • Safety should be on the minds of all trick-or-treaters and their parents

  • Pay close attention to the little ones. Little kids are no concepts of traffic. They're not like little adults. They don't have a sense of danger about 6 years old. And on this day in particular, they have another preoccupation: Candy

  • Be sure to "see and be seen". The former can be achieved with a simple flashlight. The chaperon may want to take on flashlight duty, making it easier to keep an eye on everyone at once.

  • Children forego masks in favor of face paint. Mask can reduce visibility, limiting what children can see to only what's directly ahead. Face paint can often get that look they want without sacrificing safety.

  • Be seen can be achieved with reflective tape or bright colors or both. Slap a stripe of tape on your child's back, or make a bracelet out of it.

  • Driver's also need to be extra alert on Halloween. There will be children where usually there are none. And it's safe to assume they won't be the ideal pedestrians for the night. "You have to be aware that at any point, a kid could come out from between two cars.

  • Reduce your speed, try to keep a safe distance from the sidewalk and stay alert.

  • Expect kids to be out and about between 6 and 8pm. Older, unsupervised kids may be out later, though, so don't let your guard down.

  • Wait till the kids get home to eat the candy because sugar can do crazy things to kids.

Have a safe Halloween Everyone Soon! :-)

What Kind Is YoUr Scent?

Me? it depends on the occasions or seasons. Like in summer I do wear just cologne. I choose a cologne or perfume that makes me feel clean, confident and smelling good all day. Before I buy any cologne or perfume I try it first and leave it on my skin in a about 5 minutes because different perfumes will react differently on each person.

I have a very sensitive nose for colognes and perfumes. I'm quite dramatic about it so I've found that I can live with light scents cologne and perfumes all day long and not get a headache or nauseous after inhaling it. Fruity, flowery and sweet vanilla scents are my favorites. I've tried so many through the years and many of my favorites have been discontinued scent.net. If you want to know yours then visit online perfume.

How Safe Is YoUr Tap Water?

Recently, you may have heard news reports about pharmaceuticals found in drinking water supplies in some area of the country. Pharmaceuticals in drinking water are more of a concern with water supplies that have waste water discharged into them.
Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that water poses a health risk. In order to insure that tap water is safe to drink, FDA (Food and Drugs Administration establish limits for contaminants in bottled water which must provide the same protection for public health.
Bottle vs. Tap Water -the smart choice. Even though tap and bottled water must meet the same standards, bottled water costs hundred of times more-a penny for tap. Tap water must meet more intensive testing requirements than bottled water regulated by FDA.
To reduce exposure to lead in drinking water - You must run the tap water first until after the water feels cold. To save water, fill a pitcher with fresh water and place in the refrigerator for future use. FYI: Never use hot water from the faucet for drinking or cooking-especially when making baby formula or other foods for infants. Ask your local water department if there are lead service pipes leading to your home. Be careful of places you may find lead in or near your home. Paint, soil, dust, and some pottery may contain lead.
Drinking water and people with weakened immune systerms - Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Immuno-compromised persons such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotheraphy, persons who have HIV/AIDS or other immune systems disorders, come elderly, and infants can be particularly at rish for infections. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.
Always check the water your drinking everyone! :-)

Craving For OUr Native Food

Hi again everyone. I hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was ok , we're supposed to go to to a fair but the weather was nasty. So, we just did our regular errands. We go shopping food for a week. I get excited when finally see some of asian products in that grocery that we went. I bought a coconut milk in can because I miss our dishes using coconut milk. So, I tried one recipe from tons of cookbooks that I have. The "Mild Vietnamese Chicken Curry". Although it's not a Filipino dish but similar and still an asian food. I omit some of the ingredients because I don't have it. I'm lucky, it came out good. :-D
The Ingredients
My finished product. How's my presentation? hmmm yummy for my tummy. :-)

These are the lastest cookbooks that my hubby's family bought for me. When they knew that I don't know much how to cook. Everyone in his family buying cookbooks for me, even my hubby's boss gave me one ( The Essential Wok Cookbook) and my newest one is the one that my father in law ordered for me by mail (Food & Wine Annual Cookbook). He surprised me with it. I had tons of cookbooks already. I said to myself , gosh I do really need to learn how to cook variaties of food :-) Although I learned a lot of American and Italian dishes already in about more than a year now. My hubby is the one who patiently thought me how. His my teacher now, I learned a lot of things from him.
Honestly I am not much into cooking. But lately I included cooking into my hobbies list. I guess I am enjoying it now.

How to Prevent Food Poisoning From Eggs

According to FDA some 140,000 people are sickened by eggs contaminated with salmonella each year, and about 55 die. HOW YOU CAN TELL IF IT IS A GOOD EGG: Eggs can become contaminated when a hen is infected with salmonella and passes it to an egg before it's laid. Or the bacterium can penetrate an intact or cracked shell afterwards. Bacterial growth in an infected egg is particularly likely if eggs aren't promptly refrigerated after being collected. The new FDA rules place greater restrictions on farms with more than 3,000 laying hens to ensure that they are raised in sanitary facilities and that eggs are kept cold as they're stored and transported.
To prevent contamination here are things you need to follow:
1. Check expiration dates, buy only refrigerated eggs, and refrigerate them promptly when you get home.
2. Open the carton to make sure that the eggs are clean and uncracked.
3. Cook eggs properly. Scrambled eggs should not run. With fried eggs, yolk and the whites should be firm. Cook casseroles and other dishes containing eggs to 160 degree Fahrenheit and use pasteurized egg products in recipes, such as cakes that call for raw or undercooked eggs.
4. Serve eggs dishes immediately after cooking. For buffets, keep hot dishes hot and cold dishes cold. Cooked eggs dishes can be refrigerated but should be reheated to 165 degree Fahrenheit before serving. Eat hard-cooked eggs within a week.
HAVE A GREAT EGG WEEKEND EVERYONE! :D

Message of The Day :-D

I don't care if you lick windows,
take the special bus or occasionally pee on yourself.
You hang in there, sunshine - you're just special.
Every sixty seconds you spend angry, upset or mad,
is a full minute of happiness you'll never get back.

Today's Message of the Day is:
Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly,
Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile.
Life may not be the party we hoped for,
but while we're here, we should dance.
Cheer's to all!
  • Finally.... - I get a chance to grab the 2nd award of my baby blog today. Thank you so much Spiky of Oh Bite!: A Journey To Plates for giving me this award and for app...
