The start of each new school year is a clean slate. Parents like me are hoping that their child will be in a class with a great teacher, kids hope they're in a class with their friends. But what about teachers, what do they hope for? Well, here are tips that I've learned from the experts and I want to share to all of my blogger's friends and especially to all the Moms out there.
1. Talk about teachers with respect and your child will respect her teachers.
2. Attend school open houses and parent/teacher conference.
3. Meet with teachers early in the year and set realistic expectations from you and and your child. Ask "What can we do at home to support efforts in the classroom?".
4. Don't be a "dry cleaner" parent. That's someone who drops off an unruly, disrespectful child and expects to pick up a kid who is cleaned and pressed in the afternoon.
5. If there's a problem, talk to the teacher first. Don't go over his/her head and consult the principal.
6. Send your child to school after he's/her had a healthy breakfast, wearing the proper clothing, with a nutritious lunch and the proper supplies.
7. Keep your child home if she's/he's truly sick, but try hard not to let her/him miss more than four or five days a semester.
8. Support what happens in the classroom by asking open-minded questions at home.
9. Limit television and video games, and encourage independent reading and family discussion around the dinner table.
10. Understand that your child is in a class with other students and that the teacher may not be able to provide him/her with unlimited special attention.
So, Parents out there start connecting with your child's teacher!
I am learning too...
Goodluck :-)
